What We Believe

New Heights Community Church exists to make Jesus known. We open the Bible every Sunday and take God at His word. We ask the Holy Spirit to move, and we expect Him to. We want to be a church you cannot explain apart from the presence of God. These are the essentials we hold together, and how we hold them.

Essentials We Believe

God

There is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the Creator of all things, infinite in power, perfect in love, and holy in all His ways. God is sovereign over all creation and worthy of all worship, glory, and praise.

Gen. 1:1; Ps. 145:3; Rom. 8; Eph. 1:13-14; Rev. 4:11

Humanity

Humanity was created in the image of God but fell into sin through Adam's disobedience. All people are sinners by nature and choice, separated from God and in need of salvation.

Gen. 1:27; 3:1-24; Rom. 3:23; 5:12

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is fully divine and fully human. Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and performed miracles. He was bodily resurrected from the dead and ascended to the right hand of the Father. He will one day return and reign forever.

John 1:1-14; Phil. 2:6-11; Matt. 1:23; Heb. 4:15; Acts 2:22; Luke 24; Matt. 28; 1 Thess. 4:16-17

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God, the third person of the Trinity. He indwells believers upon salvation, regenerates their hearts, and gives them power to live a godly life.

Ezek. 36:26-27; Acts 1:5; 5:3-4; Titus 3:5-6

Scripture

The Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God, written by human authors under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the final authority in all matters of faith and life, sufficient to guide us in truth and equip us for every good work.

2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:19-21

The Gospel

God, out of love for the world, sent Jesus to die for our sins and to rise from the dead. Jesus' death on the cross was the substitutionary and atoning sacrifice for our sins. Salvation is a free gift of God, given by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. God declares believers righteous through Christ and transforms them by His Spirit. Salvation is available to anyone who trusts in Christ. Those trusting in Christ should repent of their sin, confess their faith, and be baptized.

John 3:16; 1 Cor. 15:1-8; 2 Cor. 5:21; 1 Pet. 2:24; 1 John 2:2; Rom. 3:23; 6:23; Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 5:1; 2 Cor. 5:17; Rom. 10:9; Acts 2:38

The Church

The church is the body of Christ, gathered by the Spirit. It is called to proclaim the gospel, make disciples, administer baptism and the Lord's Supper, exercise discipline, and fulfill the Great Commission. Christ is the head of the church, and believers are called to love, serve, and submit to one another in Him.

Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 2:42; 1 Cor. 11:23-26; Eph. 4:11-16; 5:21-25

Eternity

All people will be resurrected. Believers will be raised to eternal life with God. Unbelievers will be raised to eternal separation from God in judgment.

John 5:28-29; 1 Cor. 15:20-23; Rev. 20:11-15

How We Hold Our Beliefs

In essential beliefs, we seek unity.

“...with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
Ephesians 4:2-3 (ESV)

We are Christians.

In nonessential beliefs, we allow liberty.

“As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions.” “Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.”
Romans 14:1, 5 (ESV)

We are a non-denominational church.

In all things, love.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 13:34-35 (ESV)

“And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”
1 Corinthians 13:2 (ESV)

“The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.”
1 Timothy 1:5 (ESV)

We are a church full of people in process.

Our Core Values

We stand on the Word and depend on the Spirit.

Word. Scripture is our final authority in all matters of faith and life. God has spoken, and we submit to His Word.

Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our power. We cannot do this without Him. We seek His presence, depend on His guidance, and follow His lead.

"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life." John 6:63

We love God together.

Worship. We are passionate worshipers. Our love for God fuels everything we do. Worship is the posture of our lives.

Community. We are family. God uses real relationships to change us. We know each other, care for each other, and challenge each other to follow Jesus.

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God." Colossians 3:16

Every follower of Jesus is sent.

Mission. We are sent. We live out the Great Commission and the Great Commandment everywhere we go, sharing the gospel, making disciples, and serving sacrificially.

Multiplication. We reproduce. Leaders multiply leaders. Groups multiply groups. Churches multiply churches.

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
